After half-term we’ll start a project on the Second World War. We’ll look at the causes and consequences of the war, understand how it consumed much of the world, and find out how it ended in Europe and Asia. We’ll also spend a little time looking at ideas of war and peace and ask whether war can ever be justified.
It would be great if, over half-term, the children could research any family history connected to the war (stories, correspondence, medals for bravery, conscientious objection, resistance, artefacts…). Perhaps they have a grandparent who has childhood memories of the war whom they could talk to.
The children might also see what they can find out about the role that Winston Churchill played in the war, ahead of our visit to the Cabinet War Rooms and Churchill Museum. There will be lots of opportunities to share any research in class.
