Weekly round up

As tends to happen in Year 6 at this time of year, our weeks are becoming pretty intense and hardworking!  Not only that, national standards have risen across the board with the new curriculum – a good thing, certainly, but meaning we have more to get through than ever. The children are rising to the challenge and we hope they can feel and enjoy the progress that they’re making.  The writing is becoming more fluent and controlled (examples of this week’s writing to follow);  everyone’s pretty confident with their arithmetic; and we’re building confidence and skills for mathematical problem solving.  Reading and spelling, punctuation and grammar (SPaG) are coming along too.  The practice exercises on SpaG.com are proving very useful and we’ve uploaded another for the children to work through over the next seven days.

Onto other things, there will be a supply teacher on Monday because the Year 6 team is spending the day on moderating the children’s writing.  The children will draw portraits of mothers and/or other family members in the afternoon, so it’d be great if they could bring in photos to work from.

A few pictures from the week below – have a good weekend.

Pancake day
A fantastic World Book Day costume
Fantastic Mr Fox and Moominpappa. The Moomin is a friendly creature, of course, so this costume was a bit of a disaster, terrifying and horrifying  the younger children in equal measure!
